The Department of Sociology
started functioning in 2001 keeping in view the demand of this discipline in
Southern Punjab. This facility was not available in the entire region.
Sociology as an emergent discipline is the deriving force and the main
determinant of the development in every society. The Bahauddin Zakariya
University Multan has always contributed in the development, organization and
progress of education and human resource development in Pakistan. Realizing
the significance of this popular social science, this initiative was taken to
address the socio-economic-cultural issues and their policy implications.
Initially, this department was the part of Institute of Management Sciences (IMS)
and started on self-finance basis. Later on, in 2005, after having got the
PC-1 approved from Higher Education Commission (HEC), this department has been
working as an independent discipline. Keeping in view the responsibility of
playing role in the Higher Education, the department has decided to provide
the facility of M-Phil in Sociology in 2004.
The academic programmes
presently being offered are:
- MS.c Sociology (Two Years)
under Semester System
- M-Phil in Sociology (Two
Years) under Semester System with a unique combination of course work and
emphasizing on quality research.
In the next academic session,
the department intends to start BS Four Years in Sociology.
Our main
objectives are;

committed to pursuit of excellence and endowed with vision, courage and
dedication.

assimilation and dissemination of knowledge.

economic betterment of Pakistan through development of Human Resources.
