The mission of the Department is to be a centre of excellence in teaching, research and extension education in the discipline of agricultural engineering so as to:

News & Activities:

  • Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has currently granted;
    • Re-Accreditation of B.Sc. Agri. Engg. Sessions: 2015-2019, 2016-2020.
    • 100 % increase (40 to 80 students) in admission seat of B.Sc. Agri. Engg.
  • Departmental Achievements;
    • Since 2019, the Department is going to adopt OBE (Outcome based Education System) as recommended by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC)
    • Thereby, PEC accreditation under Washington Accord as per PEC guidelines
    • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshops conducted by the Department on February and April, 2018.(CPD credit point = 0.5)
    • Four newly appointed Lecturers have joined the Department
    • Five Faculty Members have joined back the department after successfully completed their PhD and Post-Doc programs from Japan, New Zealand, China and Turkey.
    • Two Faculty Members has been sent for PhD studies at Germany and Netherland under Faculty development program
    • Academic Council (BZU) permitted Specialization in M.Sc. (Hons) and PhD Agricultural Engineering Programs as follows:
      • Irrigation and Drainage (I&D)
      • Farm Machinery and Energy (FME)
      • Structures and Environmental Engineering (SEE)
    • Students from MNS- University of Agriculture, Multan (MNSUAM) conducted practicals at state-of-the-art labs of Agricultural Engineering.
    • Two-weeks Survey Camp for B.Sc. Agricultural Engineering Students at Murree
    • Continuing professional Development (CPD) Activity by the Department on December 2016. (CPD credit point = 0.5)
  • Research and Projects, Seminar and Conferences;
    • Two Faculty members have won the NPRU Research Projects worth more than 5.0 Million in July,2018
    • Water seminar organized by the department at world water day 23rd March,2018
    • Indus Water Commissioner (Additional) have delivered the speech in addition to other specialized expects in the water filed.
    • Dr. Zahid Mahmood Khan received:
      • Consecutive win of SATHA Gold Medalawarded by Zahid Mahmood Khan and his team in 2018.
      • Rs. 2.9 million from Higher Education Commission (HEC) for research project on Waste Water Treatment.
      • SATHA Innovation Award with Medal on providing sustainable Waste Water Treatment Technology for Pakistan.
    • Dr. Aamir Shakoor completed Higher Education Commission (HEC), SRGP Project on Groundwater modeling.
    • Six Faculty Members awarded Research Projects from BZU, Multan (December,2016).
  • Extra-Curriculam Activities
    • Pakistan Society of Agricultural Engineering, BZU, Multan organized as follows:
      • Annual Dinner 2018.
      • Sports Gala 2018.
    • Department Organized two days National Conference on Agri. Engg. And Sciences (NCAES-2016) held on May,2016 about 60 full length articles were published in conference proceedings.
    • Scientific Seminar on “Innovative Management, Engineering and Productivity Enhancement” In Sept, 2016.
  • Newly Constructed Departmental Building;
    • Inauguration by the worthy Vice Chancellor of Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan.

Introduction

The Department of Agricultural Engineering applies the principals of Engineering Science and Technology for enhancement of Agricultural production and for advancement of Food processing technologies & Agricultural products. The Department of Agricultural Engineering was established in 2004 at the Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan. The department is offering courses of engineering studies leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Science, Master of Science (Hons.) and Ph.D in Agricultural Engineering Discipline. These degree programmes focus on the fundamental engineering courses as approved by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) with emphasis on Modern Mechanized Agriculture, associated issues and their solutions.

    Current Development & Future Goals
    A Developmental Project in the form of PC-1 for the department has already been approved by the HEC for additional buildings, laboratories and other infrastructure. The civil works of the New Building for Agricultural Engineering Department has started and will hopefully be completed by next year. The umbrella of Agricultural Engineering also includes the disciplines of Food Processing, Landscape & Forest Engineering, Precision Agriculture, Alternate Energy Resources Development etc.

    Programmes Offered
    Currently, following programmes are being offered at department of Agricultural Engineering;
    1. B.Sc. Agricultural Engineering
    2. M.Sc. (Hons.) Agricultural Engineering
    3. Ph.D. Agricultural Engineering
    All these programs are offered subject to the conditions and criteria dully approved by the Higher Education Commission, the Board of Advanced Studies and Research, Academic Council, the Syndicate and the Senate.



    Admission Criteria

    1. B.Sc. Agricultural Engineering
    Eligibility:
    An applicant seeking admission to B.Sc. Agricultural Engineering (under all admission categories must fulfill the following eligibility requirements;

    He/she should have passed the Intermediate (F.Sc. Pre-Engineering) Examination with Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics from a Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education of Punjab, or an equivalent examination recognized by the University. However, Intermediate with Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science will not be eligible for admission to B.Sc. Agricultural Engineering.

    a. He/she should have obtained at least 60% (i.e. 660/1100) marks in F.Sc. (Pre-Engineering) excluding of 20 marks for Hafiz-e-Quran.
    b. He/she should have appeared in the entry test for session 2014 arranged by the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore.

    Seats for Diploma Holder:
    For admission against seats for the holder of Three (3) Years Diploma of Associate Engineer, the candidate should have passed the examination of Board of Technical Education in Agricultural, Civil, Mechanical or Automobile and Farm Machinery Technology with minimum of 60% aggregates marks excluding of 20 marks for Hafiz-e-Quran. He/she should have appeared in the entry test for session 2014 arranged by the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore.
    However, the three year Diploma qualification equivalent to F.Sc. (Pre- Engineering) will not be considered for admission on any other category (open merit or reserved seat) except explained/notified otherwise by a competent authority.

    Equivalent Examinations:
    The University recognizes the following examinations equivalent to the Intermediate (Pre-Engineering) Examination of the Pakistani Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education:

    a. Cambridge Overseas Higher School certificate with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
    b. British General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics;
    c. F.Sc. (Pre-Medical) with Mathematics as an additional subject.
    d. American High School Graduation Diploma (12th Grade) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Both male and female are eligible to apply for admission to B.Sc. Agricultural Engineering.

    Computation of Merit:
    The merit of applicants will be determined on the basis of admission marks obtained by them in the following examinations:

    A. For Application with H.S.S.C. (Pre-Engineering) as Highest qualification

    a. H.S.S.C. (Pre-Engineering) or equivalent plus 20 marks for Hafiz-e-Quran = 70%
    b. Entry test marks = 30%

    B. For Seats Against Diploma of Associate Engineering as highest qualification

    a. Three year Diploma of Associate Engineering plus 20 marks for Hafiz-e-Quran = 70%
    b. Entry test marks = 30%

    2. M.Sc. (Hons.) Agricultural Engineering:

    Two year degree programme of M.Sc. (Hons.) is offered in the discipline of Agricultural Engineering with specialization in following disciplines:

    a. Irrigation and Drainage
    b. Farm Machinery and Power
    c. Structure and Environmental Engineering

    This is an Evening and Self-Supporting Program and the conditions regarding financial liabilities laid by the University (BZU) will apply. A separate advertisement will appear in national press for admission to M.Sc. (Hons.) Agricultural Engineering. There is also provision for M.Sc. (Hons.) leading to Ph.D after fulfilling certain conditions laid by the University and HEC. The detailed rule for these programs is available with the University and department.

    Eligibility:

    As prescribed by the university in line with HEC.

    3. Ph.D. Agricultural Engineering

    Department is offering Ph.D in the subject of Agricultural Engineering with following specialization observing all criteria duly approved and notify by HEC.

    a. Irrigation and Drainage
    b. Farm Machinery and Power
    c. Structure and Environmental Engineering

    Eligibility:
    As prescribed by the university in line with HEC.

    Research Projects:

    1. Adoption of low cost Wastewater treatment technologies and associated solid waste reuse in agriculture.
    2. Development and Evaluation of Design Procedure for Gravity fed Drip Irrigation Systems for Small Farmers.
    3. Design, development and modeling of a parabolic solar concentrator for the post harvest processing of agri products.
    4. Design, development of fish oil extractor
