Introduction
The Department of Economics is one of the pioneer departments of the university when it started functioning in 1975. Since the department of Economics was upgraded to School of Economics in 2015, it has become the leading institution in teaching and research among the social sciences, commerce and management. The school has produced thousands of graduates so far who are serving in various national and international institutions across the country and abroad. At present, there are 17 faculty members in the school. 13 of them hold Ph.D. degrees from renowned universities. The director has also completed his post doctoral research from London School of Economics, UK. The faculty members are producing significant number of research papers annually being published in HEC approved national and/or international research journals. The faculty members have competency in diverse branches of Economics. The School of Economics is more competitive as compared to other departments/ institutions working all over Pakistan due to its highly committed, motivated and well trained faculty.
The school offers a wide range of courses in the field of Economics. The school is running BS 4-years program with the purpose to provide the essential knowledge and skills of Economics to the students. Keeping in view the present day requirements of the subject and to facilitate the aspirants of Economics to have wider job placement as per future market needs and to nurture solid base of Economics since they go for Higher Studies, the School is now offering BS in two other sub fields of the same discipline (such as BS Economics and Finance & BS Development Studies) which are duly recognized by the HEC. Moreover, such programs are being successfully run by many International Univeristies worldwide. The School of Economics is already offering exciting and academically challenging postgraduate degree of M.Sc. Economics. The program provides expertise in Development Economics, Financial Economics and Econometrics with emphasis on quantitative tools such as Mathematics, Statistics and Computer applications in addition to core courses. The main feature of the course is its blend of core economic concepts and principles with modern research methods. The school is producing more than 180 postgraduates on average annually.
The school of Economics has also been successful in the offering of challenging program named as Master of Business Economics (MBEcon) at weekend which is the blend of Economics and Business Studies, recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). This program is aimed at imparting a full range of knowledge, awareness and expertise mutually in the subjects of Economics and Business. The students of MBEcon would be equipped with theoretical, contemporary and market required practical skills relating to Economics and Business studies together. The graduates of MBEcon would be well prepared to take up their career in the Public / Private Sectors as Business Economist and Analysts in Businesses, consultancy firms, financial institutions and in applied research firms. To cater the needs of CPEC, the School of Economics has also initiated three important Postgraduate Diplomas in Logistics and Transport Economics, Health Economics and Industrial Economics. Currently 1500 Students are studying at the School. The School also aims at promoting research on various local and national issues. For this purpose, it has introduced M. Phil. Economics, M. Phil. Business Economics and Ph.D. Economics programs. The school has produced successfully more than 400 M.Phil Economics and 40 Ph.D. scholars so far. Presently, 7 Ph.D. scholars have submitted their theses while 40 scholars are registered as Ph.D. candidates including HEC scholars. The students’ enrollment strength of the school has now risen to over 1000 per academic year. Recently, Bahauddin Zakariya Univeristy Multan has signed MOU between School of Economics, Bahauddin Zakariya University and School of Economics, Finance & Banking of Universiti Utara Malysia (UUM) and Putra Business School (PBS), UPM, Malysia to make arrangments mutually for students/ faculty exchange programs among other initiatives. A part from it, this MOU will strengthen the academic and research activities of the School of Economics (BZU) with the cooperation of Universiti Utara Malysia (UUM) and Putra Business School (PBS), UPM, Malysia. The school has a library of more than 5000 books, plus a collection of national and international journals. Computer facilities including WiFi are also available in the School. The school also arranges some cocurricular and extra-curricular activities for the students to sharpen their abilities and performance.

Eligibility: a) An applicant seeking admission to Ph.D. in Human Nutrition and Dietetics must fulfill the following eligibility requirements: b) He/she should have passed the M.Sc. (Hons.)/M.Phil. in the relevant subject or equivalent qualification c) Minimum CGPA of 3.0 from a recognized University. d) International GRE (Subject) or equivalent test passed before admission. e) A Ph.D. Scholar is required to complete course work of up to 18 credit hours and must qualify. All applicants have to fulfill the conditions laid by HEC from time to time. Merit Determination: Merit shall be determined as per following formula.
