Introduction

As per the vision of Punjab government and after approval from Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) in 1990, the Mechanical Engineering Department (MED) was established in 2004 as a part of University College of Engineering and Technology. At the time of its inauguration, it was the only department which was offering B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering in the region of South Punjab.

Initially, program was being assessed on annual basis, later on Term System and finally Semester System was adopted. In view of latest advancement of education system, the Department has successfully adopted the Outcome Based Education (OBE) System within the semester system. Now the degree of B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering is accredited by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) at Level-II in conjunction with Washington Accord.

MED has total 14 permanent faculty members out of which 09 faculty members are Ph.D. degree holders whereas 03 other faculty members are enrolled in Ph.D. programs. Moreover, MED has 05 Lab Engineers to facilitate the students on hand-on experience of latest Mechanical Engineering equipment and software.

The curriculum of the MED is designed in view of latest requirements of the field with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities as well as the criteria of HEC and PEC having the courses of Thermal Power, Design, Manufacturing, Engineering Mechanics, Robotics and Automation along with Inter-disciplinary, Natural Sciences and Management Courses to equip its students with the latest tools of Mechanical Engineering.

Moreover, MED has started Postgraduate program (M.Sc. Mechanical Engineering) in 2021. M.Sc. Mechanical Engineering program is designed to promote the research culture. The core purpose of this research-based program is to provide solutions for various problems of world-wide engineering society. The department is expected to commence its Ph.D. program soon.
