Introduction

Center for Translation and Trans-Cultural Studies (CTTS) has been established at Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan in 2024 and Dr. Muhammad Khawar Nawazish from department of Urdu has been appointed its poineer director. This center stands as a beacon of academic excellence, dedicated to fostering a deep understanding of national languages of Pakistan, cultures, and their intricate intersections. At the heart of this center's mission is the promotion of cross-cultural dialogue and understanding through the art and science of translation. Translation, as an essential tool for bridging linguistic and cultural divides, is at the core of global communication and exchange. The center aims to cultivate a cadre of skilled translators and scholars capable of navigating these complexities with nuance and precision. CTTS aims to offer a comprehensive academic program also in future that will encompass translation theory, practice, and research. Students will have the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of translation across various disciplines and languages; especially the national languages of Pakistan including Urdu, and equipping them with the skills necessary to excel in a rapidly globalizing world. Furthermore, the center serves as a hub for interdisciplinary research, bringing together scholars and researchers from diverse fields to explore the multifaceted nature of translation and its impact on society. Through conferences, seminars, and publications, the center aims to contribute significantly to the academic discourse in the field of translation studies. In addition to its academic pursuits, the center is committed to engaging with the local community and promoting a culture of multilingualism and multiculturalism. Through outreach programs, workshops, and cultural events, the center seeks to celebrate linguistic diversity and promote a deeper appreciation of different cultures.

Objectives:

  1. Foster a deep understanding of languages and cultures through translation.
  2. Engage in interdisciplinary research to explore the impact of translation on society.

  4. Host conferences that bring together scholars and practitioners to discuss cutting-edge research in translation studies.

  11. Facilitate the exchange of ideas and literature between different regions of Pakistan by translating Urdu works into local languages.
