Department of Agronomy
The Institute of Agronomy provides the students with a professional development in the field of agriculture and strives to equip students with the tools to serve communities as a whole through agriculture. From each facet of our work, we emphasize the importance of sustainable and efficient practices to conserve our resources and protect the land. The faculty in the Institute also provides advisory services to farmers; NGOs and relevant agro-based industry about the developments in this immensely significant area of agriculture that help them execute better resource management, and ultimately sustain crop yield under specific agro-climatic conditions.
Agronomy major was started in September, 1992, with only one regular faculty member, which has now increased to fourteen regular faculty members.
Presently, the Institute of Agronomy offering B.Sc. (Hons.), M.Phil / M.Sc. (Hons.) and Ph.D. and also 2 year BSc Associate Degree in Farm Management. So far Institute has produced 56 PhD students and several others are currently enrolled in Ph.D. Some of them are in their final stages to complete Ph.D.

Our mission is to develop site-specific package of agronomic techniques and their dissemination among grower to boost up crop productivity to ensure food security in the country.
Our faculty members are with highly professional academic background and have strong knowledge of different fields of Agronomy such as Crop Management, Crop Physiology, Irrigation Management, Conservation Agronomy, Weed Science, Agro-metrology, Farming and Cropping system. Our goal is to produce professionals with high scientific intellect and experience so that they can not only compete with the other professional across the country but also with the world. The students are trained to solve the problems of field crops particularly crops of Southern Punjab. Meanwhile, the department focuses to train students to excel in every walk of life in public as well as private sectors.
Agriculture sector realizes the fact that its success depends on soil health and quality. In order to maintain sustainable agricultural productivity, a trained manpower of high-quality professionals is required. Similarly, growing needs of highly qualified professionals in the field of research, industry as well as academia also demand a greater number of graduates in Agronomy. Institute of Agronomy is providing such an opportunity to the students of south Punjab to meet the requirements of agriculture sector both in public as well as private sector. Our graduates are playing their role in academia, research and industry.
