Introduction

The Department of Agricultural Engineering was established at University College of Agriculture, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan in 2004. The Department is offering courses of engineering studies leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Science, Master of Science (Hons.) and Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering Discipline. These degree programs focus on the fundamental engineering courses as approved by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) with emphasis on Modern Mechanized Agriculture, associated issues and their solutions. Presently, the major areas of emphasis in Agricultural Engineering Discipline include but not limited to:

  • Irrigation & Drainage Engineering
  • Farm Machinery Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering & Pollution Control
  • Energy Management Engineering
  • Hydrology & Water Resources Management

The umbrella of Agricultural Engineering also includes the disciplines of

  • Food Process & Storage Engineering
  • Landscape & Forest Engineering
  • Precision Agriculture

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

The program aims at imparting quality education to agricultural engineering graduates for contributing to the society through modern technologies and practices.

The Program will prepare and produce graduate Agricultural Engineers who will be able to:

  • Demonstrate sound Agricultural Engineering knowledge and skills in public and private sectors at national and international level.
  • Execute and manage teamwork, interpersonal skills, and professional growth in the field of Agricultural Engineering.
  • Conduct Agricultural Engineering professional practice considering societal, ethical, and environmental aspects.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

Program outcomes are the narrower statements that describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to the knowledge, skills and attitude that the students acquire while progressing through the program. Specifically, it is to be demonstrated that the students have acquired the following graduate attributes (GAs):

PLO1 - Engineering Knowledge :

An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems

PLO2 - Problem Analysis:

An ability to identify, formulate, search literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using principles of mathematics, natural and engineering sciences.

PLO3 - Design/Development of Solutions:

An ability to design solutions for complex engineering problems and design systems, components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PLO4 - Investigation:

An ability to investigate complex engineering problems in a methodical way including literature survey, design and conduct of experiments, analysis and interpretation of experimental data, and synthesis of information to derive firm conclusions.

PLO5 - Modern Tool Usage:

An ability to create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modeling, to complex engineering activities, with an understanding of the limitations.

PLO6 - The Engineer and Society :

An ability to apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice and solution to complex engineering problems.

PLO7 - Environment and Sustainability:

An ability to understand the impact of professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development.

PLO8 - Ethics:

Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.

An ability to work effectively, as an individual or in a team, on multifaceted and /or multidisciplinary settings

An ability to communicate effectively, orally as well as in writing, on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

An ability to demonstrate management skills and apply engineering principles to one’s own work, as a member and/or leader in a team, to manage projects in a multidisciplinary environment.

B.Sc. Agricultural Engineering

Undergraduate Program
Eligibility:

An applicant seeking admission to B.Sc. Agricultural Engineering (under all admission categories must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

• He or she has passed the Higher Secondary School certificate (HSC/ HSSC) Pre- Engineering examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, securing at least 60% marks in aggregate of a University, a Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Pakistan, excluding of 20 marks for Hafiz-e- Quran. In addition, a combination of Physics, Mathematics and Computer Studies/ Computer Science (ICS) is allowed for Admission in all Engineering programs, with Chemistry as a remedial subject/ course in the 1st Semester after Admission.

• He/she should have appeared in the entry test for the current year arranged by the University of Engineering and Technology (all Punjab) or as decided by Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan.

Admission for (3-years) Diploma Holder: Three (3-years) Diploma Holder of Associate Engineer, the candidate must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

• He/she should have passed the examination of Board of Technical Education in Agricultural, Civil, Mechanical or Automobile and Farm Machinery Technology with minimum of 60% aggregates marks excluding of 20 marks for Hafiz-e- Quran.

• He/she should have appeared in the entry test for the current year arranged by the University of Engineering and Technology (all Punjab) or as decided by Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan.



Merit Determination:

The merit of applicants will be determined on the basis of :

I. F.Sc. (First Year) (Pre-Engineering)/ ICS/DAE or equivalent plus 20 marks for Hafiz-e-Quran 50%

II. Matric or equivalent 15 %

III. Entry test (Bzu Engineering Test OR ECAT) 35%

M.Sc. (Hons.) Agricultural Engineering

Graduate (MS) Program
Eligibility:
An applicant seeking admission to M.Sc. (Hons.) Agricultural Engineering must fulfill the following eligibility requirements • He/she should have passed B.Sc. Agricultural Engineering or equivalent engineering qualification with minimum CGPA of 2.50/4.00 from a recognized University • He/she should have qualified the test: equivalent to 1. GAT (General) organized by the HEC through NTS 2. Departmental Test

Merit Determination:

The merit shall be determined as per criteria laid down by the University. Academic Qualification: 60% Departmental Test: 40%

Ph.D. Agricultural Engineering

Graduate (PhD) Program
Eligibility:

An applicant seeking admission to PhD Agricultural Engineering must fulfill the following eligibility requirements.

  • He/she should have passed the M.Sc. (Hons.) Agricultural Engineering or equivalent engineering qualification, with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 from a recognized University.
  • Admission test (Subject-based) conducted by Department of Agricultural Engineering, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan.
  • A Ph.D. scholar is required to complete coursework of up to 18 credit hours. All applicants have to fulfill the conditions laid by HEC from time to time.
  • The students admitted in the Ph.D. Agricultural Engineering degree program may/can be directed to take deficiency courses accordingly with the consent of the supervisor.

BS Remote Sensing and GIS (Morning and Evening)

Undergraduate Program
Eligibility:

An applicant seeking admission to BS Remote Sensing and GIS (under all admission categories) must fulfill the following eligibility requirements.

He or she has passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC/HSSC) Pre-Engineering examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education of Pakistan or an equivalent examination recognized by the University, securing at least 45% marks excluding 20 marks for Hafiz-e-Quran. OR 

He or she has passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC/HSSC) Pre-Medical examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from a Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education of Pakistan, or an equivalent examination recognized by the University, securing at least 45% marks excluding 20 marks for Hafiz-e-Quran with Mathematics as a remedial subject/course in the 1st semester after admission. OR

He or she has passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC/HSSC) Computer Studies/Computer Science (ICS) with Physics, Mathematics and Computer Studies/Computer Science from a Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education of Pakistan, or an equivalent examination recognized by the University, securing at least 60% marks excluding of 20 marks for Hafiz--Quran Provisional admission to BS Remote Sensing and GIS will be granted on the F.Sc. Part I result. Admission will be confirmed on securing 45% marks in the F.Sc. result.

The merit will be determined according to the criteria laid down by the University.
